The rather precarious and peculiar adventures of Hoby and Jojo

Looking for “our” house

We decided about a month ago that we wanted to move out of our little apartment. I am SOOO tired of apartment living – the noise and mess from the neighbors, every message from the managment company having threatening overtones, and not to mention the raising of the rent every year. Sorry, been there and done that for two years now, tired of it.

So, Hoby started looking online for better townhouses and condos to rent. They were rather expensive, so he decided to see how buying a house would fit into our budget. Turns out that due to the low interest rates, we can buy a modest house for less money per month than renting a townhouse or condo! Go figure!

As a result, we did some brief online searching to check out house prices, areas we would like, etc.  While doing so, we came across a contact for a Real Estate agent named Chris da Vince with great reviews on Zillow.  So, we contacted Chris, who set us up with our Wells Fargo mortgage affiliate.  Next thing you know… here we are pre-approved with a loan commitment to buy a house!  Yikes, how did that happen all of a sudden!?!?

Now, the thing is, Hoby and I really like different (and I do mean DIFFERENT) things. I like… no neighbors, living at least 2 hours from the nearest town, while possibly living in a Yurt. Hoby likes… close to town, convenience… oh, and let’s not forget he likes to be near people. Needless to say, the house hunting has been a bit… interesting.

We did look out of town initially, but anything we could afford that had a house Hoby was willing to live in was in a “country suburb”. Which means that I would still have neighbors looking at me and would have to listen to their dogs;  at least the ones who survive the bears and mountain lions, that is. I will have to say that a few that we looked at had some nice views.

Our other issue was that Hoby’s pathfinder does not do well in the snow.  It’s a two wheel drive that we bought in Alabama, before we knew we were destined for the western territories.  So, add mountains and you can forget it!

Well, now we are back to looking in town and we have finally found some contenders for possible properties!  So, we will soon know if we are to be house owners in Colorado or not!
