The rather precarious and peculiar adventures of Hoby and Jojo

Newdle for HoJo

For those who don’t know, Jo and I are in the process of getting a puppy.  The breed is called Newdle (pronounced noodle) or Newfeepoo.  It is a cross between a Newfoundland and a Standard Poodle and has the following characteristics:

  • curly, dark chocolate hair
  • slightly large in stature, like Golden Retriever but slimmer (hopefully)
  • doesn’t drool, which is nice for a large breed
  • doesn’t shed, which is just nice regardless of the breed
  • is quite smart
  • has a great personality

The breeder is Lucky Day Ranch (http://newfypoopuppies.com/). We went down to Cañon City last weekend to pick out our new puppy from this particular litter.  We will pick her up in about two weeks. We are thinking Cocoa for a name, but that is yet to be determined.  That may be tentative until we learn her personality a little more, then name her more appropriately.  We’ll see.  🙂

Hoby’s Thoughts and Reflections For Christmas 2011 And The New Year

Christmas 2011?  Already?  In less than 2 weeks?  Wuh?!?!? I really can’t believe it.  It’s like it just sprang up out of nowhere.  What happened to 2011?  Where did it go?  It’s like last year I just blinked and here we are; another year gone by and it’s Christmas again.  Wow.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I have been rather introspective of late.  (more…)

Looking for “our” house

We decided about a month ago that we wanted to move out of our little apartment. I am SOOO tired of apartment living – the noise and mess from the neighbors, every message from the managment company having threatening overtones, and not to mention the raising of the rent every year. Sorry, been there and done that for two years now, tired of it.

Harold Gets A Job

Harold has been telling me that he is just a little bored with his job as watch bird.  He also informed me that the pay stinks! I would have to agree with him on that.

He was just a little jealous of Hoby and I “getting” (ha) to go to work in the mornings. Harold thought that Biscuit could guard the house just as well as he does, at least during the day, since she is a heavy sleeper and wouldn’t hear a burglar over her own snoring at night.

Moisture in the Air

We recently purchased an item that no self respecting midwesterner or south-easterner would ever consider purchasing (unless of course, you have sick kids).  Being both self respecting midwesterners and southerners, we would have never considered the need to add moisture to the air!  If we ever had such a thought back “home”, the walls would be dripping with condensation!  As it is, you need to develop gills to survive the humidity back there.  So, you would not want MORE humidity and you surely wouldn’t purchase a machine to add it!

Well, welcome to the Denver air.  Not only do you want more moisture in it, but you NEED it.  So, after a year of the dry air, we purchased a humidifier.  It has really made sleeping in the bedroom more comfortable.  It works very hard to get the humidity up to 36% at night. If  it gets to 45% we are lucky.  It takes about a gallon of water and 8 hours to get it there.  We only use it at night and during the next day the humidity drops again.  Oh well, I guess when in Rome…. well, not quite, but a humidifier has been a welcome addition out here in Colorado.

Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane

I had a very interesting weekend.  For years, I have asked Hoby repeatedly to send me skydiving.  I have REALLY wanted to go for just about ever.  Even more so for the last 10 years, after I discovered that you could do it tandem with an instructor (much less scary that way).  This year I made my plea again, since I am fixin’ to turn 50 (who da’ thunk?).  I told Hoby that my time was nearly up for being able or allowed to do something like that.  So… He finally gave in!

Harold the Weather Bird

Who would have ever thought that I, Jo, would have spent money on a yard-art bird?  But, I did. Thus, we have a new addition to our family.  His name is Harold.  He was so goofy and cute looking in the store, that I couldn’t resist the “take me home” look in his eye.  Only one eye, that is, ’cause they both don’t look in the same direction. Why Coloradans get annoyed with the weather

So this weather forecast shows why the weather can be so annoying in Denver.  It isn’t that it snows all the time, but that it has an amazing ability to just snow on weekends, for like weeks in a row.  (more…)

Christmas at the Smith House, Jo’s Perspective

Christmas day has come and gone, even though the reason for celebrating cannot be contained in a single season of the year. Christ being born as a human and  becoming the sacrifice for our sins, is reason for celebration all year long or rather all eternity long.  (more…)

Biscuit’s Walk Around the Lake

Clement Park is just one of several parks in our area of Littleton and provides a variety of outdoor activities.  It also encompasses a locally popular, small lake called Johnson Reservoir.  The other day, Biscuit and I decided to go for a walk around the reservoir.  Actually, it was I who decided.  Biscuit was just along for the ride and a walk is always good in her book.  The weather has been relatively warm and sunny here on the Front Range.  Go figure.  (more…)
